INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) AS A VERITABLE TOOL IN REVITALIZING THE NIGERIAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

Abstract:

There are lots of uncertainties that impede the effective use and implementation of ICT in Nigerian Post Primary Educational System. These factors are incompetency of the teachers, unavailability of laboratory facilities to perform computer practical, lack of refresher training courses to teachers and poor teaching methodology. This paper will address these uncertainties by proposing the application of ICT for the effective implementation in teaching and learning in Nigerian Post Primary Educational System. This will be achieved by introducing ICT in the school system as well as adequate supervision on the implementation to ensure a huge success. The research was guided by three research questions and a structured questionnaire to elicit information from the respondents. The research has proved that conducting refresher training for teachers, provision of adequate laboratory facilities, provision of conducive enabling environment, effective and cognitive teaching strategies and methods should be adopted to arouse the learner’s interest and enhance the performances of the students. The researchers recommended that there should be a thorough supervision from the educational board to ensure adequate implementation of ICT in Nigerian Post Primary educational system.
