THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN BODY IMAGE AND LONELINESS AMONG TURKISH UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Abstract:

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationships between body image and loneliness among Turkish university students. Data were obtained from 620 (301 male, 319 female) volunteer undergraduate university students (Mage = 20.03 SD = 1.89) from Middle East Technical University (METU) in Turkey. Two instruments, namely, the Body Image Satisfaction Questionnaire (BISQ) and UCLA Loneliness Scale were used to collect data. A multiple regression analysis and t-test were performed to analyses the data. According to the results of the study, body image and loneliness was significantly and negatively correlated (r = -.71, p = .001).
